CVE-2023-6918: Fedoraproject Fedora

Medium severity, CVSS 5.3. EPSS: 1.4% chance of exploitation in the next 30 days.

A flaw was found in the libssh implements abstract layer for message digest (MD) operations implemented by different supported crypto backends. The return values from these were not properly checked, which could cause low-memory situations failures, NULL dereferences, crashes, or usage of the uninitialized memory as an input for the KDF. In this case, non-matching keys will result in decryption/integrity failures, terminating the connection.

Affected products

  • Fedoraproject Fedora: version 38 only; version 39 only
  • Libssh Libssh: from 0.9.0, before 0.9.8 (fixed in 0.9.8); from 0.10.0, before 0.10.6 (fixed in 0.10.6)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux: version 8.0 only; version 9.0 only
