CVE-2018-18710: Canonical Ubuntu Linux

Medium severity, CVSS 5.5. EPSS: 0.5% chance of exploitation in the next 30 days.

An issue was discovered in the Linux kernel through 4.19. An information leak in cdrom_ioctl_select_disc in drivers/cdrom/cdrom.c could be used by local attackers to read kernel memory because a cast from unsigned long to int interferes with bounds checking. This is similar to CVE-2018-10940 and CVE-2018-16658.

Affected products

  • Canonical Ubuntu Linux: version 12.04 only; version 14.04 only; version 16.04 only; version 18.04 only; version 18.10 only
  • Debian Debian Linux: version 8.0 only
  • Linux Linux Kernel: up to and including 4.19
