CVE-2007-3998: Canonical Ubuntu Linux

Medium severity, CVSS 5.0. EPSS: 3% chance of exploitation in the next 30 days.

The wordwrap function in PHP 4 before 4.4.8, and PHP 5 before 5.2.4, does not properly use the breakcharlen variable, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (divide-by-zero error and application crash, or infinite loop) via certain arguments, as demonstrated by a 'chr(0), 0, ""' argument set.

Affected products

  • Canonical Ubuntu Linux: version 6.06 only; version 6.10 only; version 7.04 only; version 7.10 only
  • Debian Debian Linux: version 3.1 only; version 4.0 only
  • PHP PHP: from 4.0.0, before 4.4.8 (fixed in 4.4.8); from 5.0.0, before 5.2.4 (fixed in 5.2.4)
